Most of my catalogue is a simple straight number system, 0001 to 2986 or whatever. But in 2018, I bought a 1000-piece micro collection, from Germany. I wanted to keep it unified, so I alphabetized them (by mineral name) and gave them their own number system, with the G prefix for "German micromount collection". I also rated all of them from A+ to C-. I'm not really a systematic collector, so I don't care too much about some very weird mineral, no matter how rare, if it's just a splotch of color on a little piece of rock. Such things got C or C- ratings. But there were plenty of things in that collection to easily make it worthwhile!
Nice article Richard. A question. What does the G signify in your catalogue number G578? G for Gibson, or something else? 😁

I know how you feel. The joy of acquiring and then re-sorting a new collection! Many hours of fun.
interesting, all the research that you do!
