At one time in my life at work I was responsible for a library collection of Montana history in Billings. I remember vaguely there was lots of skullduggery over mine property in Butte. The copper barons contested whose ore vein belonged to whom in what mine shaft. Since the rock was fractured and no vein was continuous. . . . Butte has fascinating history! These early maps are wonderful, and I can imagine how complex they would have needed to be as the 20th century progressed.

"Skullduggery" indeed - covered by two major books! "The War of the Copper Kings" and "The Battle for Butte".
